Butterfly Bouquet Blog Hop March 2021

Thank you for hopping along with us! There are so many beautiful cards created by talented Stampin’ Up! ® Independent Demonstrators around the world. I hope you enjoy yourself and get inspiration to use with this amazing new set!

My card is a Slide and Lock Gatefold friendship card. I watched both Karen Titus and Lisa Curcio on YouTube explain this fold and decided to give it a try. This card is not as difficult as it looks.

I began with Mint Macaron Cardstock, 5 1/2" X 8 1/2" (1/2 sheet of cardstock) score at 2 1/8" from each side. This has the edges meeting in the middle of the card. Because the sliding mechanism runs up the middle holding the two sides together it's a good idea to make sure there is a tiny gap between the two sides. You can see the gap in the picture above. Normally a gatefold should meet perfectly, so this is the exception to the rule.

The mechanism that slides on and off the card is made of 4 pieces of 3" X 3" white cardstock. Two of the squares are scored in half and folded; glue these to the top and bottom pieces, make sure the fold is in the middle. The mechanism slides down the middle of the gatefold card to lock it in place.

I decided to begin by getting all my elements ready: the mechanism, the focal piece to adhere to the mechanism, front side pieces, and the pieces for the inside of the card.

The Butterly Bijou Designer series paper has a design that can be cut out with one of the dies from the Brilliant Wings Die Set. I used the matching die for the largest butterfly and cut one from vellum.

I used the Frost White shimmer paint to 'pearlize' two strips of Mint Macaron Card Stock before running it through the Ornate Floral 3D Embossing Folder. I learned this technique from Susan Levasseur of WOW NOLA Creations.  I also pearlized one of the sides from the Butterfly Bijou DSP and the vellum butterfly.

I cut strips from the Natural Touch Specialty Paper for the inside and the two sides. I took a picture of the cardstock I used.

All that was left was to stamp the sentiments and assemble all the pieces. Here is the focal element to adhere to the front of the slide and lock mechanism before I adhered the pearlized vellum butterfly.

I hope you have enjoyed my card; please let me know if you've tried it.

I hope you are inspired by all of our cards and that you enjoy the the remaining blogs.
